Your calendar is where your workday takes shape. With a quick glance, you can see what's coming up, spot the busy days, and find openings for new jobs. Whether you prefer to focus on today or plan your whole week, the calendar adapts to how you work.
Let's explore how to get the most out of it.
Getting to Your Calendar
Open the SemaQuote app and tap Jobs in the bottom navigation. Your calendar loads right away, showing either day view or week view - whichever you used last.
That's it. No extra taps, no hunting through menus.
Pick Your View: Day or Week
Different situations call for different views. Here's when each one shines.
Day View: Focus on What's Next
Day view gives you a detailed timeline of a single day. It's your go-to for actually doing the work.
What you'll see:
- Timeline layout - Jobs appear as blocks on a vertical timeline, from morning to evening
- Color-coded blocks - Each job's color tells you its status at a glance
- Proportional sizing - A 2-hour job looks twice as big as a 1-hour job, so you can visualize your day
- Current time marker - When you're viewing today, a line shows you exactly where you are in the day
Day view is great when you want to:
- See how your day is structured before you head out
- Identify gaps between appointments (perfect for lunch or catch-up time)
- Stay focused on completing today's work
Week View: Plan Ahead
Week view shows all seven days at once. It's perfect for planning mode.
What you'll see:
- Column layout - Each day gets its own column with jobs stacked inside
- Compact job cards - Titles are shortened to fit, but you can still identify each job
- Workload patterns - Instantly spot which days are packed and which have room
- Full week visibility - Weekends included, so you see the complete picture
Week view is ideal when you want to:
- Plan your upcoming week
- Balance your workload across different days
- Find availability when a client asks "When can you come?"
- Catch scheduling conflicts before they become problems
Switching Views
Changing views takes one tap.
- Look for the Day and Week buttons below the date header
- Tap the one you want
- The calendar switches instantly
SemaQuote remembers your choice, so next time you open the app, you'll see the same view you left.
Moving Through Your Calendar
Navigate Day by Day (or Week by Week)
Use the arrow buttons on either side of the date header:
- Left arrow - Go back (previous day in day view, previous week in week view)
- Right arrow - Go forward (next day in day view, next week in week view)
Simple. Tap and go.
Jump Back to Today
Lost somewhere in next month? Getting back to today is instant:
- Tap the Today button in the calendar header
- Boom - you're looking at the current date
This works whether you're in day view or week view.
Pick a Specific Date
Need to jump to a particular day?
- Tap the date header at the top of the calendar
- A date picker appears
- Scroll or tap to find your date
- Tap Done
The calendar jumps right to that date. Handy when you're trying to schedule something a few weeks out or checking on a specific appointment.
Reading Job Blocks
Every job on your calendar shows up as a colored block. Here's how to interpret what you're seeing.
Color Tells You the Status
Train your eyes to recognize these:
| Color | Status | What It Means |
|---|---|---|
| Blue | Scheduled | Work is planned but hasn't started yet |
| Orange | In Progress | You're currently working on this job |
| Green | Completed | Done! The work is finished |
| Gray | Cancelled | This job isn't happening |
Once you get used to the colors, you can scan your calendar in seconds and know exactly where things stand. Learn more about what each status means.
What Each Block Shows
Depending on how much space is available, job blocks display:
- Job title (always visible - this is how you identify the job)
- Start time (so you know when to be there)
- Client name (in day view, where there's more room)
- Duration indicator (the block size itself)
Tap for Full Details
Want to see more? Tap any job block to open the job details screen, where you can:
- View all job information including notes and linked quote
- Update the status (mark it In Progress or Complete)
- Use quick actions to call the client, send an email, or get directions
- Edit any job details that need changing
Empty Days Aren't a Problem
When you're looking at a day (or week) with no jobs scheduled:
- A friendly empty state message appears
- A quick + Add Job button is right there to create a new job
- When you tap it, the date is already pre-filled
So if you're browsing your calendar looking for an open slot, you can schedule a new job right from that spot.
Your Calendar and Your Dashboard
The jobs on your calendar feed directly into your dashboard numbers:
- Today's Jobs - Pulled from jobs scheduled for today
- This Week - Aggregated from your current week's calendar
- Completion Rate - Calculated from jobs you mark as completed
This means keeping your calendar accurate isn't just about organization - it's about having reliable business insights. When you complete a job, mark it done. When something gets cancelled, update the status. Your dashboard will tell the true story of your business.
Tips for Calendar Mastery
A few habits that help you stay on top of your schedule:
-
Start each morning in day view - Take 30 seconds to review what's coming. You'll feel more prepared and won't be surprised by anything.
-
Use week view on Sundays - Quick weekly review helps you mentally prepare and catch anything you might have forgotten.
-
Trust the colors - Glance at your calendar and let the status colors tell you the story without opening individual jobs.
-
Tap when in doubt - If a job block doesn't tell you enough, tap it. The full details are one touch away.
